Jamaica is the fourth largest island in the Greater Antiles and is the fifth largest island country in the Caribbean. It measures 145 miles in length and 50 miles in width. It has a population of 2.8 million people, with it's capital, Kingstone, having a population of 938,000.

Officially known as the Commonwealth Of Jamaica, Jamaica is a commonwealth realm of Great Britain with Queen Elizabeth 2 as its Head Of State. Jamaica had been ruled by the British since 1655 prior to it's independence in 1962 and before that it was a Spanish colony called Santiago.

The Queen is represented by the Governor General. There is an elected parliament in Jamaica, which is headed up by the Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Geographically, Jamaica is divided in to four counties - Cornwall County, Middlesex County and Surrey County. Each of these counties are divided in to 14 parishes. Cornwall County includes the Parishes of Hanover, Saint Elizabeth, Saint James, Trelawny and Westmoreland. Middlesex County contains the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester, Saint Ann, Saint Catherine and Saint Mary. Surrey County includes the Parishes of Kingstone, Portland, Saint Andrew and Saint Thomas.
